ThermoHarvest™
Waste heat recovery using thermoelectric modules.
Energy-Harvest EcoCore Multidrive Suite
Turning the heat currently wasted on ships into useful onboard energy.
Four Galician companies are jointly researching how to recover waste heat from industrial vessels, convert it into electricity and manage energy intelligently to reduce consumption and emissions.
Co-funded by the European Union through the Galicia FEDER 2021-2027 Programme
A ship’s engines and systems waste a large proportion of the fuel’s energy as heat. This heat dissipates without being harnessed: it is energy that has already been generated but is nevertheless left unused.
At the same time, maritime transport faces the challenge of decarbonisation. Ships must reduce their consumption and emissions and demonstrate, using reliable data, that they comply with increasingly stringent European and international regulations.
E-HEMS investigates how to recover a ship’s waste heat and convert it into useful onboard electricity using thermoelectric technology, and how to manage energy intelligently to reduce consumption and emissions. This is complemented by a digital platform with artificial intelligence that measures, analyses and documents the ship’s energy and environmental performance, helping it comply with maritime decarbonisation regulations. The project culminates in pilot trials in a real industrial environment.
